FluentU, a website connected with BuzzFeed has a list of twenty-0ne American Slang words and definitions to enlighten where we are currently with our slang in the United States. What words will stick around? What words will our grandchildren never know?

As we learned in Into to Linguistics (English 370) Slang is something used by the youth that develops our language further. Usually started by young women before the rest of society starts using the slang and phrases that have been recently developed.

Jorden and I tired to find words that we were somewhat familiar with in order to be able to state how the word is used now, if at all. It was tempting to use modern slang to try and figure out where it would go in the future. Phrases like “Yolo” and “Basic” already seem to be dissipating from society’s language and other words like “fleek” and phrases like “on point” seem to be popping up regularly. As society changes, so does our language. As  I grow older instead of shaking my head at new slang I’ll be able to take it as a sign that our world is developing, and that it is natural in our society from learning what I have in English 370.
